| The idea behind a change out is to stop the use of non-EPA certified wood stoves and replace them with cleaner burning and more efficient certified stoves. Why replace a functioning wood stove?
Older stoves, that were built before the EPA established emission standards for wood burning appliances, consume large quantities of wood and create tons of smoke and very fine particulate pollution (PM 2.5). In areas where there is an abundance of these older stoves in use, air quality can suffer greatly. Long-term exposure to these pollutants poses serious health risks, including heart disease, chronic bronchitis, and more frequent asthma attacks.
